Ravens...and other events

The sky is a very pale blue with hints of purple in one direction and a blush of gold / pink in the west. It is 3:45 and apparently the sun set today at 3:08, yet the remaining light lingers on. The window beside my writing desk faces northwest and I look out onto the back of an elementary school and see plumes of exhaust from what I presume is a wood pellet silo / burner. Further off in the distance I am able to see the planes shortly after take-off; today has been a busy day and I’ve noticed that quite a few of the planes flying out are quite large.  It was a clear, bright day and the temperature warmed up to -18 though I chose not to experience it firsthand today, deciding I’d rather finish off the Le CarrĂ© book that I borrowed from the exercise room downstairs (which is valued even though I’ve not yet taken advantage of it – pretty decent equipment as well).

Lots of topics I’ve wanted to relay yet currently having some difficulty remembering some right now; however, these are the ones that come to mind:

Ravens – they are huge here and somewhat plentiful…..no seagulls or raccoons scavenging for food like we’d see back home – just these really large birds.  I don’t think they’re particularly assertive like Seagulls often are around food that’s visible, but they certainly aren’t shy or fly away at the least provocation. Sometimes squawky but I suspect I’ll hear them more when the windows are once again opened to the outdoors. We enjoyed watching them from the 10th floor suite as they seemed to play with one another as they’d catch some sort of thermal current and soar and swoop through the air in front of our balcony.

Our car arrived into town on Wednesday night and was stored in the movers’ garage until I picked it up on Friday. I drove it over to Canadian Tire to get a block heater and battery blanket installed – the shop was extra busy and they wouldn’t be able to get to it until Monday as I learned they were closed evenings and weekends. I realized that sometimes you forget there are service businesses that work ‘normal’ hours and since I’ve been without a car for 3 weeks now and don’t have any drastic need for it this weekend I can certainly wait until Monday. I was glad though that they were able to put it into the shop over the weekend and once I get it back we will have the last of our moved contents with us, as some were left in the car when we needed to finish off the trip by plane. (I suppose I can find some more room here somewhere….and I'm really glad to get my toolbox back...).
